Cultural Heritage in Digital Dimension

The ARK "Ukraine" is a digital platform dedicated to showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine. It provides the public with access to hidden treasures from museum collections and private archives. The resource features high-quality images and descriptions of over a thousand artifacts, including traditional Ukrainian art, professional paintings, and iconic pieces of musical heritage. By digitizing these cultural treasures, the ARK "Ukraine" seeks to preserve and share the essence of Ukrainian culture with a global audience.

Our initial discussions about the project immersed us deeply into the cultural realm and highlighted the importance of sharing this heritage with a wider audience. The web platform was the missing piece in the ARK's established ecosystem, complementing its books, concerts, and Facebook presence. This timely addition offered a digital storage solution to engage and connect with an even broader audience.

Unique and clean design

The important aspect of the platform was to create design that would not dominate over all the artifacts presented but will complement them. For this reason, the design itself integrates the elements of the ARK "Ukraine" identity to create a unified image.

Storage

Treasures of the nation is the collection of digitized icons, sculptures, carpets, chests that the visitor can download in very high quality. The preview image has lower quality than the downloaded item itself but we’ve challenged the approach when this process is made automatically and the editors do not have to upload the same image in three different sizes

Content Management

The website is rich with both written and visual content. Even books that were originally published and sold in stores have been digitized to make them accessible to a wider audience. The news and blog sections are frequently updated, so we customized parts of the admin panel to ensure they are intuitive for content managers, even those without prior experience. Additionally, we provided a guidebook outlining best practices for content editing, making the process smoother and more efficient.

The ARK "Ukraine" digital presence has received significant recognition, achieving 3,000 monthly clicks exclusively through organic traffic. Its mission to preserve and promote Ukrainian heritage has been successfully fulfilled, sparking further discussions on ways to engage more people. These conversations explore how additional aspects of Ukrainian culture and history can be showcased to deepen appreciation and understanding of its artistic and historical value.
